  1. Multiple of Discretionary Earnings Method: This type of business valuation is based on expenses the owner has control over such as his/her salary, benefits, and other discretionary items. These are added to the profits to arrive at a cash flow total. This discretionary cash flow is available to the prospective buyer to service acquisition debt and to pay himself/herself a salary.
  2. Excess Earnings Method: This type of business asset appraisal is used to assess a company's tangible and intangible assets. Its main purpose is to place a value on a business's goodwill by blending the asset-based and income approach methods.

Fee-Based Business Valuations

For more elaborate, paid valuations, Business Team works with several local valuation firms, which specializes in privately held companies and small business valuations. They offer three types of business asset appraisal:
  1. Value Analysis: Limited scope, small business valuations for "Main Street" businesses with sales under $1,000,000. The report is about 40 pages long and considers primarily historical and current performance. Value Analysis Fee: $1,500.
  2. Formal Valuation: Also a limited scope valuation, this business asset appraisal is suitable for firms with sales between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. About 70 pages long, the report emphasizes ratios, trends, and common size analysis. In addition to company earnings, the balance sheet will be a key component of this analysis. Formal Valuation Fee: $5,000.
  3. Mergers and Acquisitions (M & A) Value: A customized valuation, the fee depends on the type of business and the use of the business asset appraisal. Contact a Business Team representative for a quote.
Confidential Business Reviews

This type of review includes an executive summary of your business, a thorough overview of its history, marketing, operations, organization, facilities, asset list, valuation, financials, and tax returns. The Confidential Business Review fee is $3,000 however if you list your business with us, the fee will be deducted at the time of closing.
