Background/Experience:
Ian MacLachlan received his B.S. in Physics from San Jose University. He founded Grand Prix, a manufacturer and mail-order business for specialty motorcycle parts as well as a chain of Kawasaki dealerships. In 1977 GPC was the largest chain of Kawasaki dealerships in the U.S. After selling GPC through a business broker, he became involved in the business brokerage industry founding Business Team -the largest business brokerage firm in the Western United States. Business Team has arranged the sale of over 7000 companies to date.

Ian is a co-founder and past chairman of the California Association of Business Brokers, has previously served on the Board of Directors of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), and is a frequent speaker at IBBA conventions. He is also a member of M&A Source.

He has been qualified as an expert witness in business valuation and standard of care by the California Superior Court.

We decided to put our business up for sale in late 2017. We had a lot of employees and vendors that we worked with. Therefore, I wanted the business to be marketed appropriately while at the same time keeping the sale confidential. As this was my first time selling a business I was apprehensive regarding the process. I needed someone professional and trustworthy who I felt could get the business sold quickly and efficiently. After interviewing 3 agents I decided to go with Linda. I felt she was knowledgeable, honest and had good communication skills. From the beginning Linda kept an open line of communication and always kept us updated. She was always available to talk when I had questions.

I stressed the fact that I wanted to keep the sale strictly confidential and only information given to qualified buyers who had the cash and experience to purchase. Linda delivered on this. All buyers were qualified financially before the information of our business was given. All meetings with potential buyers were done after hours per my request. After 3 buyer meetings and approximately 5 months on the markets Linda and her team found us a suitable, well qualified buyer. For a business of our size 5 months was a quick turn around time.

There were hiccups along the way as the buyers were from out of state. However, with Linda’s professional guidance she pulled the deal through.
